Use billing rates
With billing rates , you can assign different rates to individual team members for specific services—so when time is logged or an invoice is created, the correct rate is applied automatically. Here you’ll find out how to use billing rates in invoices, proposals and time entries.
Before you start
To start using billing rates, a firm owner or admin must create at least one billing rate and assign team members and services to it.
Use billing rates for billing time
If your firm provides hourly services, billing rates in time entries ensure each team member’s work is billed at the right rate automatically. When a team member logs time and selects a service that has a billing rate configured, the rate is applied automatically.
To log time with a billing rate:
-
Start a time entry from a job, task, or the Time entry button at the top of the page.
-
You will be set as the team member automatically. The firm owner, admins, and employees with the Manage services and Manage billing rates permissions can edit the Team member field and choose another employee.
-
Select a service. If there is a billing rate, it applies automatically.
-
Complete the time entry and save it.
Once time is logged, you can generate an invoice directly from the time entries .
Use billing rates in invoices and proposals
You can apply billing rates when creating an invoice or adding services to a proposal, or using a template. To apply a billing rate:
-
Start creating an invoice or go to the Services step of the proposal or template.
-
In the Line items section, select a service.
-
Select a team member in the Team member field. If a billing rate exists for that service and team member, the rate updates automatically.
-
Adjust the rate manually if needed for a specific case.
Note
The Team member field is not visible to clients in the invoice or proposal.
